The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in London today on a plane of the British Royal Air Force. This is the first visit to the UK since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last year.
Zelensky will meet King Charles III during his visit, Buckingham Palace said. He will also hold talks with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and address parliament. Britain also announced that it would offer fighter jet training to Ukrainian troops.
Earlier today, Prime Minister of Britain Rishi Sunak welcomed the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky at the airport.
Sunak wrote about this on Twitter: “Welcome to the United Kingdom, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi. Glory to Ukraine,” the message reads.
Sunak published a photo with Zelensky near the plane on the runway.
“Great Britain was one of the first to come to Ukraine’s aid. And today I am in London to personally thank the British people for their support and Prime Minister Risha Sunak for his leadership position,” Volodymyr Zelenskyi said on his official Telegram channel after his arrival to Britain.
Today, they will hold talks in Downing Street and Sunak will announce an expanded training program for Ukrainian troops, as well as the supply of long-range weapons to Kyiv.
