In a groundbreaking move, X, formerly known as Twitter, is set to introduce a new video calling feature that allows users to connect without sharing phone numbers. CEO Linda Yaccarino confirmed the exciting development during her first television interview since taking over the reins at the social networking platform in June, marking a significant step in X’s transformation into an “everything app.”

The forthcoming video calling feature aims to enhance user engagement and connectivity, bolstering X’s position as a versatile and comprehensive social networking platform. CEO Yaccarino unveiled the plans, highlighting the platform’s evolution and its commitment to offering a myriad of innovative features.

“Soon you’ll be able to make video chat calls without having to give your phone number to anyone on the platform,” Yaccarino announced during her interview with CNBC’s Sara Eisen. The revelation follows a list of other features X intends to introduce or already offers, including long-form videos, creator subscriptions, and a seamless payments system.

Earlier, a post – “just called someone on X”, shared by X designer Andrea Conway on X is also believed to indicate the video call feature.

This move comes in the wake of X’s rebranding efforts, initiated by owner Elon Musk, who took over Twitter and ushered in a new era for the platform. The rebranding saw the transformation of Twitter into X, accompanied by a logo change featuring a distinctive blue parrot.

Elon Musk’s vision for X is to establish it as an all-encompassing platform, where users can not only interact with their favorite creators, but also indulge in video content, express their thoughts through extended 25,000-character posts, manage funds, execute payments, and potentially even store money in high-yield savings accounts.

As anticipation builds for the impending video calling feature, X continues its journey toward becoming a comprehensive and multifaceted “everything app,” revolutionizing the way users connect and engage in the digital realm.
