    WhatsApp banned 2 million accounts in India

    Facebook-owned firm WhatsApp mentioned that it banned 2 million accounts in India within the month of August in accordance with the new IT Rules 2021.

    The information got here when the corporate launched its second month-to-month report for the 30-day interval of August 1-August 31. As per studies, beneath the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, WhatsApp acquired 420 grievances from customers in India acquired by way of e-mails and mails despatched to India Grievance Officer by way of submit. The platform acted upon 41 of these grievances.

    Addressing the media, a spokesperson of WhatsApp mentioned, “This user-safety report contains details of the user complaints received and the corresponding action taken by WhatsApp, as well as WhatsApp’s own preventive actions to combat abuse on our platform.”

    Before August, between June 16 and July 31, WhatsApp had banned 30.2 lakh accounts in India in compliance with the new IT guidelines. In its first month-to-month grievance redressal report, WhatsApp had banned 20 lakh accounts in India that tried to ship dangerous or undesirable messages at scale. The spokesperson additional added, “Our top focus is preventing accounts from sending harmful or unwanted messages at scale. We maintain advanced capabilities to identify these accounts sending a high or abnormal rate of messages. The majority of users who reach out to us are either aiming to have their account restored following action to ban them or reaching out for product or account support.”
