Amazon and Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos is set to become the second billionaire this month to reach the edge of space.
Bezos and three crewmates are blasting off into space Tuesday for a short 11-minute sub-orbital flight.
Bezos is scheduled to lift off early Tuesday with three crewmates on the maiden flight of Blue Origin’s New Shepard launch vehicle.
Following today’s mission, crew member Wally Funk, 82, will be the oldest person to have flown in space. And Oliver Daemen, 18, will be the youngest.
New Shepard’s flight profile lasts approximately 11 minutes from launch to capsule landing. Astronauts will experience three to four minutes of zero-g and travel above the Kármán Line, the internationally-recognized boundary of space, Blue Origin said.
“I’m excited,” Bezos said Monday in an interview with Gayle King on “CBS This Morning.” “People keep asking if I’m nervous. I’m not really nervous. I’m excited. I’m curious. I want to know what we’re going to learn.”
New Shepard is set for lift off from the company’s facilities in Van Horn, Texas, at 9 a.m. ET. Blue Origin will have coverage on its website starting at 7:30 a.m. ET. It is also streaming the launch on YouTube.
