The U.S. on Friday added 6 aerospace companies to an export blacklist for supporting the Chinese spy balloon program, the U.S. Department of Commerce announced.

The sanctions announcement came just hours after the US military shot down the “high altitude object” that entered U.S. airspace.

The six companies were added to the list for their links to the People’s Liberation Army aerospace programs “including airships and balloons and related materials and components,” the Commerce Department said. It said the Chinese military is using high-altitude balloons “for intelligence and reconnaissance activities” that go against US national security interests.
