As part of the US Government’s recently announced $2.76 billion grant, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is going to provide $15 million to Nepal to protect the population at risk from the growing global food crisis, according to the US Embassy in Nepal.

The statement issued by the American Embassy stated that the aid is given to help people affected by the food crisis in Nepal due to the war waged by Russia on Ukraine.

US President Joe Biden pledged these additional U.S. government food security resources during the G7 Leaders’ Summit in Germany, which represents more than half of the resources that G7 leaders committed to address global food security at the Summit.

According to the US Embassy, Nepal is one of more than 47 countries and regional organizations receiving funding from the U.S. government to save lives and mitigate further increases in poverty, hunger, and malnutrition as a result of rising prices of food, fertilizer, and fuel.

According to a statement released by the US Embassy, the supplemental funding in Nepal will help ensure that people affected by rising prices and food shortages have enough to eat. Activities include supporting small farms to produce more food locally and households in need of food assistance These funds will also support nutrition-enhanced food for children under the age of five and pregnant women.
