Washington D.C. (GNB): The House of Representatives passed a resolution on Tuesday night urging Vice President Mike Pence to invoke 25th Amendment to remove the president from office.

The resolution, which calls upon Pence to mobilize the Cabinet to activate the 25th Amendment to remove the president from office, was voted by 223 to 205 votes.

The voting was mostly on party lines, with one Republican voting in favor of the resolution and another five abstaining.

The vote came after Mike Pence, a Republican, wrote to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that he would not invoke the 25h Amendment.

“I do not believe that such a course of action is in the best interest of our Nation or consistent with our Constitution, Pence writes in a letter to Pelosi.” He wrote the amendment is “not a means of punishment or usurpation,” and that invoking it would “set a terrible precedent.”

With Pence’s response to the 25th Amendment resolution, the Democrats lead House plans to move forward with impeachment proceedings. Trump would be the only one to have been impeached twice.

The US House Democrats are planning to take up an article of impeachment on Wednesday at 9 AM (ET) against Trump for “incitement of insurrection” in urging his supporters to march on the Capitol last week.
