President Joe Biden said that the US military has completed the evacuation of US embassy personnel in Sudan. Two rival leaders are fighting for power in the African country, due to which violence has broken out there.

President Biden thanked the American troops who carried out the mission to evacuate American personnel in Sudan. For now, Washington has indefinitely closed the US mission in Khartoum. According to two US officials involved in the mission, the staff were moved to an undisclosed location in Ethiopia and the embassy has been closed.

Biden said, “I am proud of the commitment of our embassy staff, who courageously performed their duties and carried out America’s friendship and engagement with the people of Sudan. I am grateful for the unmatched skills of our service members.” who successfully brought them to safety.”

Biden also thanked Djibouti, Ethiopia and Saudi Arabia for their help with the mission. Biden ordered US troops to evacuate embassy personnel after receiving a recommendation from his national security team earlier on Saturday. “This tragic violence in Sudan has already taken the lives of hundreds of innocent civilians,” Biden said.

The State Department has suspended operations at the embassy due to the critical situation. Also, it has not been clarified by when the work of the embassy will be resumed. “The widespread fighting has resulted in the deaths of a large number of civilians and injuries to many more,” Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a statement.

Fighting broke out on 15 April between the two factions, whose leaders were vying for control of the country. The violence included an attack on a US diplomatic convoy and several other incidents. In addition, foreign diplomats and aid workers were killed and injured.
