A tragic plane crash at South Korea’s Muan International Airport has claimed the lives of 177 people, leaving only two survivors. The Jeju Air Boeing 737-800 was carrying 175 passengers and six crew members, totaling 181 people on board. The flight was en route from Bangkok, Thailand, to Muan.
The crash occurred during landing when the plane’s landing gear reportedly failed to deploy. The aircraft skidded off the runway and crashed into a barrier, resulting in a massive fire. Rescue teams managed to pull two crew members alive from the wreckage, while all others on board were confirmed dead.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash. Preliminary reports suggest a possible bird strike may have caused the landing gear malfunction. This disaster is being described as South Korea’s deadliest aviation accident in over two decades.
Muan International Airport has been temporarily shut down and is expected to remain closed until January 1. Jeju Air and Boeing have expressed their condolences to the victims’ families and pledged full cooperation in the ongoing investigation.
