The United Nations on Friday welcomed the Saudi-Iranian agreement to resume diplomatic relations. Also appreciated the role played by China in this process.

“On behalf of the Secretary-General, I would like to welcome the Joint Trilateral Understanding between Saudi Arabia, the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the People’s Republic of China, which Beijing announced today to resume the agreement reached between Iran and Saudi Arabia, and within two months, diplomatic relations will move forward as before.” United Nations spokesman Stephane Dujarric told the daily press briefing.

Appreciating the efforts made by other countries like Oman and Iraq, he said,” the Secretary-General has recently praised the People’s Republic of China for organizing the talks.”

Describing Iran and Saudi Arabia as “necessary” to bring “real neighborly relations” to the stability of the Gulf region, Dujarric said he was ready to “further advance regional dialogue and ensure peace and security”.
