Russian troops are withdrawing from Kharkiv after weeks of fighting around the city, Ukrainian Defence Minister Oleksii Reznikov said on Saturday.
Ukraine’s second-largest city has remained largely under the control of Ukrainian forces since the beginning of the Russian invasion in February but has been under heavy bombardment in recent weeks. The mayor of Kharkiv told the BBC the city was calm after Russian troops withdrew toward the border.
Russian forces appear to be shifting their focus on the eastern Donbas region, where there is heavy fighting. Mr. Reznikov said the country was “entering a new — long-term — phase of the war.”
