Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who arrived in America on his first foreign visit amid the war with Russia, has announced that Ukraine will not surrender while addressing the American Congress. “Ukraine is alive and kicking,” Zelensky told the US Congress, receiving thunderous applause in return. Zelensky addressed a joint session of the US Congress on Wednesday and asked Republican lawmakers to defend their country against Russia.

    Ukrainian president roared at Congress
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the US lawmakers and said, “It is a great honor for me to address the US Congress and talk to you and all Americans. Despite all the destruction and depressing atmosphere, Ukraine has not collapsed, Ukraine is alive and kicking.” The Ukrainian president’s speech was greeted with a standing ovation by members of the US Congress. At the same time, the Ukrainian president said, “We have defeated Russia in the mental war in the world. During Zelensky’s speech, three members of the US Congress carried Ukrainian flags in their hands.

During the speech of the President of Ukraine, the entire parliament, including the parliamentarians of the Republican Party, stood up and clapped. Zelensky has now joined the list of leaders who have jointly addressed members of both the Senate and House of Congress. The practice of foreign leaders addressing the US Congress began in 1874. Many world leaders including British Prime Minister Winston Churchill have addressed the American Congress.

    Ukraine cannot be ignored
President Zelensky of Ukraine said that Russia’s war in Ukraine cannot be ignored now that the whole world is connected. He said, “This fight cannot be stopped or postponed. It cannot be ignored in the hope that someone will provide protection from the sea.” He said, ‘From America to China, from Europe to Latin America, and from every country to Australia, the world is so interconnected and dependent on each other that it is no longer possible and safe to live in isolation. It is not possible to stay away while fighting like this,” he added, “Our countries are allies in this fight, and next year will be a turning point. And I am confident that Ukraine’s bravery and American resolve will guarantee the future of our common freedom. There will be freedom of values.” That’s what we stand for.”

Hitting out at Iran’s covert support to Russia on the battlefield, Zelensky said that Iranian drones are a threat to Ukraine’s critical infrastructure and that they must be stopped with an immediate sense of urgency.

Ukraine will never be alone – US President Biden
Before addressing the American Congress, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with President Joe Biden at the White House and after the meeting, US President Joe Biden promised to continue supporting Ukraine.

In his address, Zelensky said that US President Joe Biden supported his 10-point peace plan.

“We need peace. Yes. Ukraine has already offered proposals, which I just discussed with President Biden, our peace formula. The10 points which should and must be implemented for our joint security. I am glad to share that President Biden supported our peace initiative today. Each of you, ladies and gentlemen, can assist in the implementation to ensure that Americans’ leadership remains solid, bicameral, and bipartisan,” Zelensky said.

“You can strengthen sanctions to make Russia feel how ruinous its aggression truly is. It is in your power, really, to help us bring to justice everyone who started this unprovoked and criminal war. Let’s do it,” said Zelensky, adding that only justice against the Russian aggression will compensate for all losses done by the war.

During this time, after meeting Zelensky, US President Joe Biden said, “Ukraine will never stand alone.” Sharing a photo of the meeting, Biden said it was an honor to sit with the President of Ukraine. “We’re talking constantly in times of war, but it’s worth talking in person,” Biden said. “I told President Zelensky that the United States is committed to helping the Ukrainian people as long as they need it. President Biden said, “The American people have been with you every step of the way and we will be with you. As long as the war lasts, we will be with you.” “I have no doubt that we will keep the flame of liberty burning bright and the light will prevail over darkness,” Biden said.

$1.85 billion in aid to Ukraine
After the meeting with the Ukrainian president, the US announced that it will provide arms worth 1.85 billion dollars to Ukraine. The US will now give Ukraine Patriot missile systems so that Ukraine can easily withstand Russian airstrikes.

The United States has again approved $1.85 billion in aid to help Ukraine fight Russian aggression. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that this aid is not a charity but an investment in world security. Zelensky expressed hope that the US would continue to support Ukraine in the war that began in February. When the Republican Party is about to have a majority in the US Congress on January 3, the US announced that it will help Ukraine. At the same time, Zelensky said, “Your money is not a charity, this is an investment in global security and democracy.”
