    UAE goes digital in two years, closes half of government service centers

    The United Arab Emirates will close down 50% of its government service centers and turn them into digital platforms within two years, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum announced on Saturday.

    In a series of tweets about the new federal government structure and new ministerial appointments, Sheikh Mohammed said: “We are closing 50 percent of government service centers and turning them into digital platforms within two years, we are merging 50 percent of federal authorities with other authorities or ministries and appoint new ministers of states and CEOs of specialized sectors.”

    He also highlighted the creation of the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, which was created in an effort to develop the national industrial sector, according to Emirates News Agency WAM, as well as the entity’s merger with the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (ESMA ), explaining that the Secretary of State for Advanced Sciences will work under his umbrella.

    He also announced the transfer of the “Quality of Life and Happiness” portfolio to the Ministry of Community Development and the transfer of the Federal Human Resources Authority to the UAE Cabinet.

    The Ministry of Energy will merge with the Ministry of Infrastructure Development to become the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, assigning the Sheikh Zayed Housing Program and the Federal Transport Authority (Land and Maritime) to this new ministry.

    “Brothers and sisters, following consultations with my brother Mohammed bin Zayed and after approval of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, we announce today the new ministerial structure in the UAE together with a new strategy for federal government work in the next 50 years,” HHSheikh Mohammed bin Rashid tweeted.

    “The new strategy of work builds on the achievements of “UAE Vision 2021”, during which we achieved the goals that were set for the past ten years. Today, the UAE leads the world in 100 development indicators and the region in 470 governmental, economic and technical indicators. We will embark on the new 50 years with different global ambitions,” the Vice President added. 

    “We need to change the tools that we use. The new strategy of government work will be utilized to accelerate achievements, set priorities and approve projects and budgets. We call on all federal institutions to forego ahead in line with it”, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid stated.
