    U.S. military conducted drone airstrike on suicide bombers targeting Kabul airport- Pentagon confirms

    U.S. military forces conducted a self-defense unmanned over-the-horizon airstrike Sunday on a vehicle of ISIS-K that intended to target Hamad Karzai International airport, Capt. Bill Urban, USN, U.S. Central Command Spokesman said in a press statement.

    “We are confident we successfully hit the target. Significant secondary explosions from the vehicle indicated the presence of a substantial amount of explosive material, “ CENTCOM spokesperson Bill Urban said.

    Urban said the U.S. is assessing the possibilities of civilian casualties, though they have no indications at this time.

    We remain vigilant for potential future threats, Urban added in the statement.

    The US embassy in Kabul previously issued a security alert, warned of an attack in specific areas of Kabul airport.

    Security alert read as below:

     “Due to a specific, credible threat, all U.S. citizens in the vicinity of Kabul airport (HKIA), including the South (Airport Circle) gate, the new Ministry of the Interior, and the gate near the Panjshir Petrol station on the northwest side of the airport should leave the airport area immediately.”

    US President Joe Biden told reporters on Saturday evening, his commanders informed him another “attack is highly likely in the next 24-36 hours.”

    An Explosion was rocked near Kabul airport. The blast hit a residential building west of the airport, according to local media.

    Video and footage posted on social media showed black smoke rising into the sky but there was no immediate word on any casualties.

    UPDATE: A rocket has hit a neighborhood northwest of Kabul international airport amid US evacuation and has killed a child, Aljazeera news agency reported quoting the Afghan Police chief.
