Colorado health officials say they have confirmed the nation’s first case of a COVID-19 variant strain first detected in the United Kingdom.
Public health officials said the infected person is a male in his 20s who lives in Elbert County. They said he has not recently traveled.
Colorado Governor Jared Polis announced through social media that the first first case of the COVID-19 variant B.1.1.7, the same variant discovered in the UK has been discovers in Colorado”.
He said the health and safety of Coloradans is our top priority and we will monitor this case, as well as all COVID-19 indicators, very closely.
This strain of the coronavirus first detected in the U.K is thought to be more contagious than the original COVID virus, but medical professionals say they believe the vaccines are effective in preventing it.
