HOUSTON – An airport in Houston temporarily grounded all flights on Tuesday after two private jets collided on its tarmac, officials said.
The incident took place around 3:30 p.m. CT when a twin-engine jet departed “without permission” from the William P. Hobby Airport runway and collided with another twin-engine jet that was landing on the runway, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The FAA said the departing jet, a twin-engine Hawker H25B , clipped the wing of the arriving jet, a Cessna Citation 525. Both planes sustained damage, but no injuries were reported among the four people on board the two aircraft.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the cause of the collision. The airport resumed normal operations after about an hour of closure.
Hobby Airport is one of the two major commercial airports in Houston, serving mainly domestic flights. It is also a popular destination for private and corporate aviation.
