MARYLAND (GNB) – The Frederick Police, Maryland identified the man who shot two people at a tech park in Tuesday morning, police officials said in a press briefing on Tuesday afternoon.
A U.S. Navy medic shot and wounded two Navy sailors at a “military institution” in an office park in Frederick, Maryland, on Tuesday, and then fled to a nearby Army base, where he was fatally shot by base police, officials say.
The shooter as E-4 Fantahun Girma Woldesenbet, 38, who lived in Frederick but not on the base, Police Chief Jason Lando said. He added that the two who were wounded were also members of the Navy stationed at Fort Detrick.
“At approximately 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Frederick Police Department responded to the 8400 Block of Progress Drive for reports of an active shooter, according to a statement by the city of Fredrick, MD. “Upon arriving, FPD determined there were two victims who suffered life threatening injuries and were transported to an area shock trauma center. The shooter then drove to the military base on Fort Detrick, where he was shot and killed by military personnel on the base”, said the statement.
There is no threat to the public, the city of Fredrick says.
In a press briefing, officer Lando said authorities received a call about 8:20 a.m. reporting an “active shooter” situation at Riverside Tech Park.
People fled the area, he said. Officer Lando added that the shooting happened in “the military institution in the tech park tied to the Navy.”
One of the two victims remains in critical condition. The other is expected to be released from the hospital Wednesday, Lando said.
