A Manhattan grand jury has charged former President Donald Trump’s company- the Trump Organization, and the company’s chief financial officer Allen Weisselberg with tax fraud, according to an indictment unsealed Thursday in New York.
Trump Organization chief financial officer Allen Weisselberg surrendered to the Manhattan district attorney’s office Thursday morning for tax crimes, as part of a years-long investigation into the company’s business practices.
The Manhattan district attorney’s office, which has been conducting the investigation, also accused the executive, Allen H. Weisselberg, the chief financial officer of Trump Organization, of avoiding taxes on $1.7 million in income. He faced grand larceny, tax fraud, and other charges.
The Trump Organization and Weisselberg were charged in a 15-count indictment alleging criminal tax fraud, conspiracy and falsifying business records.
Mr. Weisselberg pleaded not guilty. “He will fight these charges in court,” his lawyers, Mary E. Mulligan and Bryan C. Skarlatos, said in a statement before the arraignment.
The Trump Organization also issued a statement, saying Mr. Weisselberg was being used as a “pawn in a scorched-earth attempt to harm the former president.”
“Today is an important marker in the ongoing criminal investigation of the Trump Organization and its CFO, Allen Weisselberg. … This investigation will continue,” New York Attorney General Letitia James said in a statement in twitter.
