A tragic train accident occurred on Sunday when 10 coaches of the Hazara Express derailed at Sarhari railway station in Nawabshah district of Sindh province, Pakistan. The devastating incident resulted in the loss of at least 30 lives, while around 80 others sustained injuries, the Geo News reported.

Confirming the casualties, Commissioner of Benazirabad Division, Abbas Baloch, reported that 30 people had lost their lives in the accident. Additionally, passengers are still trapped inside one of the derailed coaches, adding to the urgency of the ongoing relief and rescue operations. The Pakistan Army has also joined the efforts to assist in the rescue mission.

The Hazara Express was en route from Karachi to Punjab when the accident occurred between Shahzadpur and Nawabshah at the Sahara railway station. Injured victims were swiftly taken to the People’s Medical Hospital in Nawabshah for medical treatment. However, train operations in the interior Sindh districts have been severely affected, and railway officials anticipate that it may take up to 18 hours to resume services on the affected track.

The Hazara Express was reportedly carrying more passengers than its capacity, raising concerns about potential heavy material and life losses. The senior superintendent of police confirmed the involvement of police personnel and the Pakistan Army in the rescue efforts to aid those affected by the tragedy.

The exact cause of the derailment is yet to be determined, and investigations are underway. Emergency protocols have been implemented at nearby hospitals to accommodate the injured passengers, as authorities rush to address the situation.

Pakistan Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafiq stated that the train was operating at an appropriate speed based on preliminary investigations.

Home Minister Rana Sanaullah and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah have expressed their deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives in the accident, extending their condolences to the affected families.

As the situation develops, authorities are actively responding to the crisis, and further updates on the incident are expected to be released by the concerned officials.
