    Tragic Overnight Fire Claims 3 dead and 3 injured in Kill Devil Hills, North Virginia

    In the early hours of August 11, 2023, a devastating structure fire engulfed a home in the 1800 block of North Virginia Dare Trail in Kill Devil Hills. The Kill Devil Hills Fire Department responded swiftly to the distress call at 2:25 a.m., with concerns of the fire spreading to nearby structures, the Town of Kill Devil Hills said in a release.

    ‘Despite their valiant efforts, the magnitude of the fire resulted confirmed three fatalities , and an additional three individuals were injured and required medical treatment,’ the Town of Kill Devil Hills said in a release.

    Upon arrival, emergency responders were met with a fully engulfed home, battling tirelessly to extinguish the flames and prevent further devastation, the town said.

    According to the release, the affected residence’s immediate neighbor also suffered minor damages due to the intensity of the blaze. The occupants of that house were promptly relocated and are reported to be safe.

    The investigation into the origin and cause of the fire is currently underway, spearheaded by a joint effort between the Kill Devil Hills Fire Marshal, Dare County Fire Marshal, and the State Bureau of Investigations. Their combined expertise will provide valuable insights into the circumstances leading up to this unfortunate incident.

    The collaborative response effort was commendable, with not only the Kill Devil Hills Fire and Police Departments on the scene but also fire crews from Southern Shores, Duck, Kitty Hawk, Colington, and Nags Head Fire Departments. Dare County EMS and the State Bureau of Investigations played vital roles in supporting the operation.
