McLean, Virginia – In a heart-wrenching incident, an 86-year-old woman has lost her life after being struck by a vehicle in the 1700 block of Kirby Road, McLean. The Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) reported that the fatal pedestrian crash occurred yesterday morning at approximately 6 a.m.
The victim has been identified as Brigitte Forster, a resident of McLean. Preliminary investigations by the FCPD’s Crash Reconstruction Unit indicate that Forster was attempting to cross Kirby Road within a marked crosswalk at the time of the tragic incident. The driver involved, operating a 2009 Toyota Sienna, was making a left turn onto northbound Kirby Road from the parking lot of 1728 Kirby Road.
Regrettably, the driver miscalculated the turn, causing the vehicle to enter the southbound lanes and collide with Forster, who was still within the crosswalk. Following the collision, Forster was promptly transported to a nearby hospital. Tragically, despite medical efforts, she was pronounced deceased.
Authorities have confirmed that the driver remained at the scene of the accident and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation. While early findings do not suggest the involvement of speed or alcohol as contributing factors in the crash, detectives are diligently exploring the circumstances that led to this unfortunate incident.
