An explosion at Google’s data center in Iowa left three people injured on late Monday, local media reported.

“We are aware of an electrical incident that took place today at Google’s data center in Council Bluffs, Iowa, injuring three people on site who are now being treated,” Google said in a statement.

“The health and safety of all workers is our absolute top priority, and we are working closely with partners and local authorities to thoroughly investigate the situation and provide assistance as needed.”

It is believed three electricians were working on a substation close to the main data center when an arc flash electrical explosion caused major burns.

A tweet by an account that claims to monitor local police radio said one man suffered a “lower torso injury”, another “has burns to his face, left arm, and thigh”, and one has “burns to the face”.

The data center is one of Google’s first facilities, first announced in 2007 and brought online in 2009.

Google has 14 data centers in the US and 23 in total around the world, according to the company.
