The Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) has released its Global 2000 List for the year 2023. The list ranks the top 2000 universities out of 20,531 institutions worldwide, based on 13 indicators that measure their academic performance and global reputation. The indicators include education quality, alumni employment, faculty quality, research output, and citations.
The list reveals that the United States dominates the global higher education landscape, with 181 universities in the top 750 and 10 in the top 10. The United Kingdom follows with 80 universities in the top 750 and 4 in the top 10. Other countries with a high number of top-ranked universities include China, Australia, Canada, Germany, and the Netherlands.
The top 10 universities in the world are:
- Harvard University (USA): Harvard is the oldest institution of higher education in the USA, founded in 1636. It has more than 20,000 students and 4,600 faculty members. It is known for its excellence in teaching, research, and innovation, as well as its influential alumni, including 8 U.S. presidents, 62 living billionaires, and 359 Rhodes Scholars.
- Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA): MIT is a world-renowned institution of science and technology, founded in 1861. It has more than 11,000 students and 1,000 faculty members. It is known for its cutting-edge research, entrepreneurship, and social impact, as well as its Nobel laureates, MacArthur Fellows, Turing Award winners, and Fields Medalists.
- Stanford University (USA): Stanford is a private research university located in Silicon Valley, founded in 1885. It has more than 16,000 students and 2,200 faculty members.
