Tesla CEO Elon Musk is looking beyond electric vehicles, solar panels, and energy storage, now seeking to sell electricity on the retail market.
Tesla Energy Ventures, LLC applied for a retail electric provider (REP) Certificate in the State of Texas. Tesla Energy Ventures sought to use the trade name Tesla.
Ana Stewart serves as President of Tesla Energy Ventures, LLC filed the application to the Public Utility Commission of Texas on August 16, requesting a “retail electric provider” (REP) certificate.
Electricity could be drawn from that grid or from Tesla home batteries, the report said, and Texans with solar panels on their homes could sell excess power to Tesla’s grid as well.
Details about its exact plans are not included in the application.
According to Texas Monthly, Elon Musk made an application in mid-August with the Public Utility Commission of Texas to sell electricity on the retail market via Tesla’s energy subsidiary called Tesla Energy Ventures. The earliest the filing could be approved is sometime in November.
