Lamu County, Kenya – At least ten Kenyan soldiers lost their lives in a roadside blast that rocked Lamu county along the North Coast of Kenya. The devastating incident occurred on Sunday, and officials have confirmed the casualties on Monday.

The attack in the Buure area was swiftly condemned by the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF), although they did not officially confirm the number of casualties. However, a security official, speaking anonymously, disclosed that ten soldiers tragically died, while four others suffered severe injuries, the Xinhua news agency reported. The explosion occurred when the patrol vehicle ran over an improvised explosive device on Milimani Baure road, leading to its complete destruction.

“The condition of the injured soldiers is bad,” the unnamed official stated, emphasizing the severity of the situation.

In a statement issued from Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, the KDF strongly condemned the incident, describing the perpetrators as determined to disrupt the movement of people and goods in the area, thereby undermining socioeconomic stability.

“KDF calls on the residents to share information with security agencies on these criminal elements who lurk in their communities,” the military urged.

Lamu County has been plagued by recurrent attacks by militants over the years, leading to the loss of numerous security officers and civilians. Security personnel suspect the presence of an active al-Shabab cell in the area, as this attack follows another that left two construction workers seriously injured on September 9th.

The situation remains tense as authorities work tirelessly to maintain security and protect the lives of residents in the region.
