The automaker is still grappling with pandemic-related issues which have recently caused 11 factories to temporarily suspend production in Japan.

The maker of the popular Prius Hybrid and Corolla sedan models said, in 2021, its domestic sales totaled 2.11 million vehicles including minicars, which was 2.2 percent less than a year earlier.

The group’s global sales, however, gained 13.8 percent to 8.39 million units, it said.

The Toyota brand alone sold 9.62 million vehicles globally, marking a 10.6 percent increase, while production retreated 1.5 percent from a year earlier to 2.88 million units, the automaker said.

In December, its global sales retreated 7.0 percent from the same month a year earlier, with production dropping 6 percent, Toyota said.

(With inputs from Agencies)

The post Toyota tops global auto sales for 2nd straight year in 2021 appeared first on gnbnow.

Toyota cuts its Production Plans for September and October 2021 due to shortage of certain parts

GNB Desk

Automobile

Toyota

Japanese carmaker Toyota announced on Friday that the ongoing shortage of certain parts caused by the spread of COVID-19 in Southeast Asia will slow production in the coming months. As for September, Toyota said, it is in addition to the adjustment of production operations announced on Aug. 19 (Adjustments to Domestic Production in September).

According to Toyota, the global production volume affected by these adjustments will be approximately 70,000 units (40,000 units overseas and 30,000 units in Japan) for September and 330,000 units (180,000 units overseas and 150,000 units in Japan) for October, compared to the production plan as of August.

The scarcity of the semiconductors that power modern cars was attributed to the current spread of the coronavirus in South-East Asia, which has snarled chip manufacturers in the region.

Regarding full-year operating income, there is no change to the forecast of 2.5 trillion yen (equivalent to USD 22.7 billion) announced in its FY2022 First Quarter Financial Results summary in August, Toyota said.

Meanwhile, the company said it would adjust production plans for September and October. It was unclear how the global semiconductor shortage will affect the months from November onwards.

Toyota apologizes to its customers and suppliers for any inconvenience caused by these changes

The post Toyota cuts its Production Plans for September and October 2021 due to shortage of certain parts appeared first on gnbnow.
