According to a letter from Musk’s attorney, Alex Spiro, addressed to SEC Chair Gary Gensler, the SEC has issued a “settlement demand” requiring Musk to either agree to a monetary penalty or face multiple charges.

The letter claims that the SEC’s actions are part of a “multi-year investigation” involving over six years of what Musk alleges is targeted harassment. Notably, the SEC has reopened its inquiry into Neuralink and subpoenaed Spiro for testimony, which he has refused to provide.

Oh Gary, how could you do this to me? pic.twitter.com/OoooQI77ZS
— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) December 12, 2024

Spiro has further alleged that the SEC’s actions are politically motivated, implying that they might be influenced by officials in the White House. What began as a playful meme coin has transformed into a serious player in the crypto market, thanks in large part to Musk’s influence.

The Humble Beginnings of Dogecoin

Dogecoin was created in 2013 by software engineers Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer. Initially intended as a humorous experiment, it was inspired by the popular “Doge” meme featuring a Shiba Inu dog with amusing captions in broken English. Despite its lighthearted origins, Dogecoin quickly amassed a loyal community celebrated for its charitable efforts and quirky culture.

Musk’s Entrance into the ‘Dogeverse’

Elon Musk’s involvement with Dogecoin began to emerge in 2019, when he started tweeting about the cryptocurrency. His tweets—often playful and cryptic—triggered significant price swings in the market. With his massive social media following and unparalleled ability to influence public opinion, Musk became a powerful force in the crypto space.

The Rise of the ‘Dogefather’

In 2021, Musk dubbed himself the “Dogefather,” cementing his association with Dogecoin. His appearance on Saturday Night Live that year brought Dogecoin into the mainstream, spiking its value and making it a household name.

Major Milestones in the Doge Saga

1. SpaceX and Dogecoin

In 2021, Musk announced that SpaceX would launch a satellite entirely funded by Dogecoin. This marked a groundbreaking moment, demonstrating Dogecoin’s viability beyond internet jokes.

2. Twitter and Dogecoin

After acquiring Twitter in 2022, Musk replaced the platform’s bird logo with the Doge meme for a brief period, once again thrusting Dogecoin into the spotlight.

3. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)

In a surprising turn of events, Musk was appointed to lead a newly formed U.S. government department named DOGE in 2024, further solidifying Dogecoin’s cultural and financial impact.

The Impact of Musk on Dogecoin

Musk’s influence on Dogecoin has been both profound and polarizing. His tweets can cause dramatic price fluctuations, showcasing the volatility of cryptocurrencies. Critics accuse him of market manipulation, but his role in bringing mainstream attention to Dogecoin and the broader crypto market is undeniable.

The Future of Dogecoin

Dogecoin’s long-term prospects remain uncertain. However, its journey—entwined with Musk’s influence—represents a unique chapter in cryptocurrency history. As the “Dogefather” continues to shape its narrative, Dogecoin’s future is a mix of potential and unpredictability.

Whether it remains a lighthearted digital currency or evolves into something more significant, one thing is clear: Dogecoin’s story is far from over. And with Elon Musk at the helm of its cultural influence, the crypto world will undoubtedly be watching.

The post The Rise of the ‘Dogefather’: Elon Musk and Dogecoin appeared first on gnbnow.

Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy to Lead Trump’s Efficiency Initiative

GNB Desk

USA Politics

Donald Trump

Elon Musk

In a statement released on November 12, 2024, President-Elect Donald J. Trump announced a groundbreaking initiative aimed at overhauling the federal bureaucracy. The initiative will be led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, who will head the newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). This department is tasked with dismantling government bureaucracy, slashing excess regulations, cutting wasteful expenditures, and restructuring federal agencies.

Trump emphasized that this initiative, which he likened to “The Manhattan Project” of our time, will drive large-scale structural reform and create an entrepreneurial approach to government. The goal is to eliminate the massive waste and fraud in the $6.5 trillion annual government spending and make the U.S. government more accountable to the people.

The initiative is set to conclude by July 4, 2026, coinciding with the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Trump expressed confidence in Musk and Ramaswamy’s ability to deliver a more efficient and less bureaucratic government as a perfect gift to America on this historic occasion.

The post Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy to Lead Trump’s Efficiency Initiative appeared first on gnbnow.

Elon Musk Awards $1 Million to Petition Signer in Support of U.S. Constitution

GNB Desk

USA news

USA Politics

2024 Presidential Race

Elon Musk

Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk, known for his unwavering support of Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, awarded a $1 million check to a petition signer during a campaign event in Pennsylvania on Saturday. By signing below, I am pledging my support for the First and Second Amendments.” Musk, who has thrown his full weight behind Trump’s re-election bid, is using this petition as a strategic tool to rally support for Trump’s campaign.

While the right to free speech is widely supported across party lines in the U.S., the right to bear arms remains a divisive issue. Republicans, especially Trump supporters, are staunch advocates of the Second Amendment. Musk’s online petition thus taps into this divide, attempting to mobilize conservative voters in swing states like Pennsylvania.

Reuters reported that during the Pennsylvania event, Musk handed the $1 million check to John Dreher, a petition signer, stating, “Well, John didn’t know much about this. So, you’re welcome.” The event took place just two weeks ahead of the 2024 presidential election, underscoring the high stakes for both parties in swing states like Pennsylvania.

At the same event, Musk also warned that if Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee, wins the election, it could be the last U.S. election ever held. While Musk did not elaborate on how or why Harris’s victory could lead to such an outcome, his comment reflects the heightened tensions and stakes in this election cycle.

In addition to his vocal support, Musk has also used X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, to bolster Trump’s campaign. Since acquiring the platform, Musk has positioned it in ways that favor Trump, from content amplification to campaign visibility. Moreover, Musk has reportedly donated millions to Trump’s re-election efforts.

Musk’s involvement in Trump’s campaign has become increasingly visible, particularly in battleground states like Pennsylvania. The state, known for its electoral significance, has been a focal point of Musk’s efforts, as the Electoral College system determines the presidency in the U.S. With only a few key states likely to decide the outcome, Pennsylvania remains a critical battleground where both parties are fiercely competing.

While Trump is unlikely to win based on the popular vote alone, the Electoral College system makes it possible for him to secure a victory through targeted wins in swing states. Musk’s involvement is seen as a strategic move to help tip the scales in Trump’s favor, especially in states like Pennsylvania.

Additionally, Trump has previously announced that if he wins, he would include Musk in his cabinet, potentially giving the billionaire direct influence over key government decisions. Musk’s companies, including Tesla and SpaceX, have benefited from billions in government subsidies and contracts, even under Democratic leadership. Should Trump win, Musk stands to gain even more government support, potentially as a return on his substantial financial backing for the campaign.

Musk’s $1 million daily giveaway and ongoing involvement in Trump’s campaign have raised eyebrows, sparking conversations about the influence of billionaires in U.S. elections and the potential consequences for future governance.

The post Elon Musk Awards $1 Million to Petition Signer in Support of U.S. Constitution appeared first on gnbnow.

Tesla’s Earnings Call: A Leadership Failure?

GNB Desk

Automobile

Business/Tech

Elon Musk

Tesla

Tesla is one of the most innovative and successful companies in the world, led by its charismatic and visionary CEO Elon Musk. However, Tesla’s third quarter earnings call in 2023 revealed a different side of Musk: a frustrated and emotional leader who seemed to lose confidence in his own company.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has been criticized by some investors and analysts for his performance on the company’s third quarter earnings call, which missed expectations on both revenue and earnings per share.

Tesla missed expectations on both revenue and earnings per share, and faced several challenges such as high interest rates, supply chain issues, and regulatory hurdles. Instead of addressing these issues with a clear strategy and action plan, Musk blamed external factors and expressed his disappointment and pessimism. He even sounded like he was “almost in tears” at one point, according to financial analyst and YouTuber Kevin Paffrath.

Paffrath was not the only one who criticized Musk for his performance on the earnings call. Other analysts and investors also expressed their disappointment and concern about Tesla’s future. They accused Musk of being “a little baby” who was “afraid” to invest in a new gigafactory in Mexico, which would be Tesla’s sixth and most expensive factory to date. They also said that Musk was “cautious” and “tempered expectations” around the Cybertruck, Tesla’s electric pickup truck that has been delayed several times.

Tesla’s stock price fell 15% in the past week, but it is still up 96% this year. The question is: how long can Tesla sustain its growth and innovation without a strong and confident leader? Is Musk’s performance on the earnings call a sign of a leadership failure?

Some might argue that Musk’s emotional reaction on the earnings call was understandable and human. After all, he is under tremendous pressure to deliver on his ambitious goals and vision. He is also facing personal challenges such as his divorce from singer Grimes and his legal battle with the SEC over his controversial tweets. Moreover, Musk has always been known for his unconventional and candid style of communication, which has earned him both admiration and criticism.

However, others might contend that Musk’s performance on the earnings call was unacceptable and unprofessional. As the CEO of one of the most valuable companies in the world, he has a responsibility to communicate effectively with his stakeholders and inspire confidence in his team and customers. He should also be able to cope with challenges and setbacks with resilience and optimism. He should not let his emotions get the best of him or affect his judgment.

In conclusion, Tesla’s earnings call in 2023 exposed a weakness in Musk’s leadership that could have serious implications for the company’s future. While Musk has proven himself to be a brilliant innovator and entrepreneur, he also needs to improve his communication skills and emotional intelligence. He needs to show that he can lead Tesla through difficult times with clarity, courage, and conviction.

The post Tesla’s Earnings Call: A Leadership Failure? appeared first on gnbnow.

Elon Musk Unveils Plans for Twitter Branding Overhaul with New X Logo

GNB Desk

Business/Tech

Elon Musk

Twitter

Twitter’s owner, Elon Musk, has set his sights on a major rebranding initiative, announcing his intention to change the social media platform’s iconic logo. In April, the iconic bird emblem was temporarily replaced with the Shiba Inu dog, the face of the popular cryptocurrency Dogecoin. The move resulted in a surge in Dogecoin’s market value, illustrating the significant impact Twitter’s branding decisions can have.

However, not all of Musk’s recent Twitter-related announcements have been met with enthusiasm. The recent decision to limit the number of tweets various accounts can read per day garnered widespread criticism from users and marketing professionals alike. This move sparked debates about the platform’s commitment to free expression and openness.

Adding to Twitter’s recent woes, the company is facing a lawsuit filed by former employees, demanding at least $500 million in severance pay. Since Musk’s takeover, Twitter has implemented significant cost-cutting measures, including laying off more than half of its workforce.

As Elon Musk spearheads this ambitious branding overhaul, the future of Twitter remains uncertain. Users and industry experts are eagerly awaiting the unveiling of the new X logo and the subsequent changes it may herald for the popular social media platform.

The post Elon Musk Unveils Plans for Twitter Branding Overhaul with New X Logo appeared first on gnbnow.

Elon Musk Holds Twitter Space to Discuss xAI

GNB Desk

Business/Tech

Elon Musk

xAI

In a highly anticipated event, Elon Musk, renowned entrepreneur and CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, hosted a Twitter Space session Friday to discuss xAI (eXploratory Artificial Intelligence) and shed light on its potential impact. The event drew inquisitive minds from various fields, and here is a recap of the key points covered for those who missed it.

First and foremost, Musk introduced the impressive founding team behind xAI, which boasts exceptional backgrounds with DeepMind, OpenAI, Google, Tesla, and more. Their collective expertise sets a strong foundation for the project’s ambitious goals.

Musk expressed that the primary objective of xAI is to develop a robust AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) with a profound understanding of the universe. He emphasized the importance of creating an AGI that is “maximum curious” and “truth curious,” striving to minimize the gap between perceived truth and actual truth.

The entrepreneur argued that humanity, with all its intricacies, is far more intriguing to a truth-seeking superintelligence than anything else, including space exploration and colonization. Musk highlighted the multitude of unresolved questions, such as the nature of gravity and the lack of concrete evidence of extraterrestrial life. He mentioned the Fermi Paradox and raised the possibility that consciousness may not exist elsewhere in our galaxy, given the absence of evidence thus far.

Musk acknowledged the limitations of current advanced AIs when it comes to answering technical questions, describing the existing state of AI as falling significantly short of expectations. However, he expressed confidence that xAI would gradually bridge this gap, relying on heavy computing power initially but progressively reducing the need for brute-force approaches as the team gains deeper insights into the problem.

Co-Founder Greg Yang elaborated on the mathematical aspects of xAI, suggesting that the mathematical frameworks discovered through the project could potentially offer new perspectives on existing questions, such as the “Theory of Everything.”

Elon Musk proposed a significant benchmark for AGI, stating that it cannot be deemed truly AGI until the computer successfully solves at least one fundamental question. Drawing from his experiences at Tesla, he emphasized the tendency to overcomplicate problems, expressing the belief that AGI might reveal unexpectedly simple answers once the breakthrough is achieved.

The xAI team plans to release more information about the initial launch of their project in the coming weeks. When asked about the competition with OpenAI, Musk confirmed that xAI is being developed as a direct competitor, stressing the value of multiple entities and healthy competition to drive progress and honesty within the industry.

Addressing the issue of data, Musk revealed that most organizations utilizing AI have unlawfully used Twitter’s data for training purposes. He acknowledged the need for restrictions due to excessive scraping, with multiple entities attempting to collect all available tweets in just a matter of days. Musk confirmed that xAI would also leverage tweets for training, recognizing the eventual need for AI to generate its own content.

In response to concerns about political correctness, Musk expressed his apprehension about training AI to conform to specific narratives, emphasizing the importance of letting AI express what it believes to be true. He acknowledged that this approach may lead to criticism but considered it crucial to avoid the danger of teaching AI to lie.

Regarding regulation, Musk acknowledged the necessity of oversight and revealed his willingness to meet with political figures like Kamala Harris, though he expressed uncertainty about her suitability as the AI czar. Musk anticipated the implementation of AI regulations in China as well, suggesting that the Chinese Communist Party aims to prevent subservience to a digital superintelligence.

Musk issued a warning about potential shortages, forecasting a shortage of voltage transformers within a year and an electricity shortage within two years. He further emphasized the mutual benefits of collaboration between xAI and Tesla, stating that xAI’s contributions would enhance Tesla’s self-driving capabilities.

Musk proposed an insightful approach to AI regulation, suggesting that consensus among stakeholders should drive the adoption of proposed rules. While acknowledging the need for some cautionary measures, he emphasized the importance of avoiding excessive delays that hinder progress.

Finally, Musk shared his thoughts on Ray Kurzweil’s prediction of AGI emergence by 2029, expressing his agreement with the timeframe, albeit with a slight margin for error.

The Twitter Space event generated significant interest and raised various intriguing questions about the future trajectory of xAI. The Center for AI Safety released an open letter in May, cautioning against the potential risks of uncontrolled AI development and emphasizing the necessity of global efforts to regulate the technology.

While Musk has been critical of ChatGPT and the direction taken by other companies in the field of generative AI, Reuters reports that xAI does not intend to explicitly program morality into its AI engine. Instead, the company aims to develop an AI system that comprehends the true essence of the universe, with a focus on ensuring its safety.

Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, xAI has already hired 11 AI engineers who have made significant contributions to notable innovations at organizations like DeepMind, OpenAI, Google Research, Microsoft Research, Tesla, and the University of Toronto. Among the talented engineers are former employees of DeepMind, Microsoft, and Google, including Igor Babuschkin, Greg Yang, Tony Wu, and Christian Szegedy. These individuals have played key roles in groundbreaking advancements such as the AlphaStar gaming program, Google’s Minerva AI, OpenAI’s GPT-3.5, and GPT-4 large language models.

The company intends to expand its technical team by recruiting experienced engineers and researchers. xAI was incorporated in March as a distinct legal entity separate from Twitter, which Musk clarified has been renamed X Corp. However, Tesla and Twitter will collaborate closely with xAI in the development of the new generative AI engine, according to the company’s statement.

With Musk’s involvement and the expertise of talented engineers, xAI aims to make significant strides in generative AI and push the boundaries of understanding the universe through its advanced AI technology.

The post Elon Musk launches xAI appeared first on gnbnow.

Twitter shareholders approve Elon Musk’s $44 billion offer

GNB Desk

Business/Tech

Elon Musk

Twitter

Twitter shareholders on Tuesday approved the $44 billion bid of billionaire Elon Musk to buy the social media platform. As of Tuesday, Twitter was trading around $34 a share.

Twitter’s suit was expected after Musk said last week that he no longer plans to buy Twitter , citing Twitter bots and claiming that the company didn’t give him the information he needed to evaluate the deal.

The lawsuit accuses Musk of hypocrisy and bad faith in breaching his contract with Twitter.

“Musk refuses to honor his obligations to Twitter and its stockholders because the deal he signed no longer serves his personal interests,” the lawsuit said.

“Having mounted a public spectacle to put Twitter in play, and having proposed and then signed a seller-friendly merger agreement, Musk apparently believes that he—unlike every other party subject to Delaware contract law—is free to change his mind, trash the company, disrupt its operations, destroy stockholder value, and walk away,” it added.

The suit accused Musk of “a long list of material contractual breaches by Musk that have cast a pall over Twitter and its business” and asks the court to “compel consummation of the merger upon satisfaction of the few outstanding conditions.

” The lawsuit points out that in the purchase agreement, “Twitter negotiated for itself a robust right to demand specific performance of the agreement’s terms that encompassed the right to compel defendants to close the deal, and ensured that Musk personally was bound by that provision (among others).”

Twitter filed the suit to “hold Elon Musk accountable to his contractual obligations,” Twitter board chair Bret Taylor tweeted.

Twitter has filed a lawsuit in the Delaware Court of Chancery to hold Elon Musk accountable to his contractual obligations.
— Bret Taylor (@btaylor) July 12, 2022

“Oh the irony lol,” Musk tweeted after Twitter’s filing.

Oh the irony lol
— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 12, 2022

The post Twitter sues Elon Musk to force him to complete $44 billion deal appeared first on gnbnow.
