The Los Angeles Rams defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20 in Super Bowl 56 on Sunday in Inglewood, California.
Matthew Stafford threw a clutch touchdown toss to Cooper Kupp with 1:25 remaining to lead the Rams to a tight victory over the Bengals.
The Rams trailed for the majority of the second half before the 1-yard toss gave them the 23-20 win. Kupp, who was named MVP, hauled in eight catches for 92 yards and two scores.
“I’m so proud of this team,” Stafford told NBC. “So many guys on this team deserve this. So many guys gave their heart and soul to this team.”
Stafford totaled 283 yards, three scores, and two interceptions. The Rams defense sacked Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow seven times.
Rams coach Sean McVay, 36, became the youngest coach in NFL history to win a title with Sunday’s victory.
Burrow finished the game with 22-of-33 passing for 263 yards and a touchdown. Tee Higgins had four catches for 100 yards and two scores. Ja’Marr Chase finished with five catches for 89 yards.
The win is the Rams’ first in the Super Bowl since the 1999 season and the first under coach Sean McVay. The Bengals were in the Super Bowl for the first time since the 1988 season.
