Sri Lanka’s Prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has informed the party leaders that he is prepared to resign from office and make way for an all-Party Government to take over, Prime Minister’s Office announced.

He says he is taking this decision because island-wide fuel distribution is due to recommence this week, the World Food Program Director is due to visit the country this week and the Debt Sustainability report for the IMF is due to be finalized shortly.

To ensure the safety of the citizens, he is agreeable to this recommendation by the Opposition Party Leaders.

The Prime Minister’s Media Division says that the Prime Minister will resign after an all-party government is established and the majority is secured in Parliament.

The PM’s office said that Ranil Wickremesinghe will continue as Prime Minister until then.

His decision came after thousands of protesters demanding Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and the government’s resignation stormed the president’s official residence on Saturday.
