A shooting at a short-term rental home in Katy, Texas, left three people dead and two others wounded early Sunday morning, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the shooting occurred around 2 a.m. at a house that was rented for a party with about 20 people, mostly in their 20s. He said a man and a woman were found dead inside the house, while another man died at a hospital. Two more people were hospitalized with gunshot wounds, but their conditions were not disclosed.
Gonzalez said investigators are still trying to determine how many shooters were involved and what led to the violence. He said there were no signs of forced entry and no reports of any disturbance before the shooting.
“We don’t know if this was a random act or if there was some type of altercation or dispute that occurred inside,” Gonzalez said at a press conference.
He said the house was rented through an online platform and that the owner was cooperating with the authorities. He urged anyone who was at the party or had any information about the shooting to come forward and help the investigation.
“This is a tragic situation. We have three young lives that have been lost, two others that are fighting for their lives, and we need to get to the bottom of this,” Gonzalez said.
