Several firefighters trapped after building collapsed in Philadelphia

Several firefighters and an L&I inspector are trapped when a building collapsed Saturday morning in northern Philadelphia.

“This morning, there was a building collapse during a fire response at 300 W. Indiana St in Fairhill which resulted in several firefighters and an L&I inspector trapped.” The city fire department said in a tweet.

So far, several were rescued and transported to hospitals. Work continues to free others, it added.

In a follow-up tweet, fire officials said the responding agencies at the scene include Philadelphia Police, L&L, OEM, PGW, PECO, PWD, American Red Cross, 2nd Alarmers, and SEPTA.

“PFD continued work to rescue 2 trapped members from the collapse at 300 W. Indiana St. 1 member was transported to the hospital. The other, a 27-year veteran, was pronounced at the scene. Our thoughts are with his friends, family, and fellow PFD along with all affected, ” the Fire Department said in a follow-up tweet.

Photos from the scene show people gathered by the collapsed building with several rescue vehicles parked out front.
