The U.S. Senate voted 86-11 on Thursday and passed to approve a $40 billion Ukraine aid package. The package would replenish U.S. stockpiles of weapons transferred to Ukraine and provide billions of dollars to help the Ukrainian government continue operating and for humanitarian assistance.
President Joe Biden has promised to sign the bill once it reaches his desk which exceeds his $33 billion requests to Congress.
“Today, I am announcing another package of security assistance that will provide additional artillery, radars, and other equipment to Ukraine, which they are already using so effectively on the battlefield, President Biden said in a statement. “These weapons and equipment will go directly to the front lines of freedom in Ukraine, and reiterate our strong support for the brave people of Ukraine as they defend their country against Russia’s ongoing aggression,” he added.
Earlier this month, the House passed the legislation overwhelmingly in a 368-57 vote.
