A 10-year-old boy killed and at least 27 others were injured when a Russian missile hit residential buildings in Kharkiv, Ukraine, on Thursday night. The attack came a day after Russia launched a deadly missile strike on a village in the same region, killing 51 civilians.

The Ukrainian authorities said that the missile targeted an apartment complex in the city center, where many families lived. The blast caused a fire that spread to several floors and damaged nearby cars and shops. The boy and his grandmother were trapped in their apartment and died of smoke inhalation, while the injured were taken to hospitals with burns and shrapnel wounds.

The Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, visited the scene of the attack and expressed his condolences to the victims’ families. He said that Russia was trying to intimidate Ukraine and its allies with its “cowardly” and “inhumane” attacks on civilians. He called for an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss the situation and demand an end to Russia’s aggression.

Russia has not claimed responsibility for the attack, but has previously accused Ukraine of provoking a war in eastern Ukraine. Russia annexed Crimea from Ukraine in 2014 and supported separatist rebels in the Donbas region, where more than 13,000 people have been killed since then. A ceasefire agreement was signed in 2015, but it has been repeatedly violated by both sides.

The city of Kharkiv is located near the border with Russia and has been under Ukrainian control since 2014. It is the second-largest city in Ukraine and a major industrial and cultural center. It has also been a target of several terrorist attacks by pro-Russian groups in the past. The latest missile attack has raised fears of a new escalation of violence in the region.
