Russia on Wednesday said a US decision to supply advanced rocket systems and munitions to Ukraine was extremely negative and would increase the risk of a direct confrontation.
Russian deputy foreign minister Sergei Ryabkov told state news agency RIA Novosti that Moscow views US military aid to Ukraine “extremely negatively”.
President Joe Biden has said the US will provide Ukraine with more advanced rocket systems and munitions so it can “more precisely strike key targets on the battlefield”.
“We have moved quickly to send Ukraine a significant amount of weaponry and ammunition so it can fight on the battlefield and be in the strongest possible position at the negotiating table,” Mr Biden said in an opinion piece in The New York Times, published on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Russian forces were in control of more than half of the eastern Ukrainian city of Severodonetsk, its governor said on Tuesday, while also confirming an attack on a chemical plant.
