About 14 months after the attack on Ukraine, now Russia is beginning to fear that Ukraine might attack Crimea.

Crimea was annexed by Russia in 2014 and separated from Ukraine. Sergei Aksyonov, the Crimean leader appointed by Moscow in Crimea, told that Russia has modern and strong defense arrangements in Crimea and they have enough troops and equipment here.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that his country will take back the territory snatched by Russia in 2014. Satellite images taken last week showed several trenches dug near Medvedivka, a small town between Crimea and the mainland. From this it seems that Russia has apprehension that Ukraine may attack this area.

Military analysts predict that Kiev will take advantage of the improving weather as well as new weapons and training for its troops from Western countries. Ukrainian forces may try to capture the land corridor between Russia and Crimea. This would split the Russian army in two, although it is not an easy thing to do. For this, Ukrainian troops will have to face Russian minefields, anti-tank trenches.

There is no possibility of ending the war between Russia and Ukraine. The Kremlin wants Kiev to recognize Russia’s sovereignty over Crimea and the annexation of the Donetsk, Kherson, Luhansk and Zaporizhzhya provinces it won in September.

At the same time, Ukraine has refused to talk to Russia until it expels Russia from all its territories. However, Russia continues to bombard Ukrainian-controlled parts of the four Russian-occupied provinces. Seven people were wounded in Russian shelling in Donetsk and Kherson on Tuesday. A church in Kherson was also damaged. Source: AP
