Russia has condemned the attack on Israel in Damascus, the capital of Syria, in which five people were killed and 15 others were injured.
Moscow, the main backer of the Syrian regime in the decade-long civil war, called the attack a “violation” of international law.
Israel’s need to coordinate with Russia – which controls Syrian airspace – has been cited as a key reason for Jerusalem’s reluctance to supply weapons to Kiev amid a Russian offensive in Ukraine behind the attacks.
According to Reuters, the spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, responded to the Israeli attack on Syria, saying, “We call on the Israeli side to stop armed provocation against the Syrian Arab Republic and to refrain from actions full of dangerous consequences for the entire region.”
