In a surprising turn of events, renowned Indian YouTuber and influencer Ranveer Allahbadia, better known as BeerBiceps, is embroiled in a controversy. The uproar stems from an inappropriate comment he made during an episode of comedian Samay Raina’s YouTube show “India’s Got Latent.”
During the show, Ranveer posed an offensive question to a contestant: “Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever?” This sparked immediate backlash, with many viewers expressing their outrage over the remark.
The situation quickly escalated, leading to multiple FIRs being filed against Ranveer, Samay Raina, and the other judges present. The Assam Police lodged a complaint under Section 296 of the Bhariya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, for promoting obscenity. The Supreme Court has deferred an urgent hearing, scheduling it for two to three days later.
In the wake of the backlash, Ranveer issued a public apology, admitting his mistake and vowing to be more cautious in the future. Samay Raina also apologized and removed all episodes of “India’s Got Latent” from YouTube. Maharashtra Minister Ashish Shelar has called for an inquiry by cultural department officials into the matter.
Bollywood celebrities and politicians have weighed in on the controversy. Jackky Bhagnani condemned the remarks, while comedian Munawar Faruqui added a humorous twist to the social media discussion. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis highlighted the importance of free speech while stressing the need to respect social norms. Former NCW Chief Rekha Sharma expressed her shock, deeming such jokes unacceptable.
The controversy has even reached Parliament, with the communications and IT panel requesting a comprehensive report from the Information and Broadcasting Ministry by February 17. Former WWE wrestler Saurav Gurjar also criticized Ranveer’s statements, warning of potential consequences.
As the legal proceedings continue, the final outcome remains uncertain. This incident has underscored the importance of responsible content creation and the duties that come with a public platform.
