Ram C. Paudel takes oath as new President of Nepal

Nepal’s Congress Party leader Ram Chandra Paul was sworn in as the new President of Nepal at the Presidential Palace in Kathmandu on Monday.

He was sworn into office and sworn into secrecy at Sheetal Niwas amid a special event organized here.

He was sworn in the presence of Acting Chief Justice Hari Krishna Karki. Paudel was officially elected the President on March 9th. He received a total of 33,802 electoral votes and his rival Subhash Chandra Nembwang received 15,518 electoral votes in the recently concluded elections.

According to the Constitution of Nepal, the President is required to swear an oath and confidentiality to the Chief Justice before taking office.

On behalf of America, the American Embassy in Kathmandu today congratulated Paudelle and expressed best wishes for a successful tenure as soon as she assumed the responsibility as the new President.
