President Joe Biden is expected to sign a short-term government funding bill on Friday after the Senate passed the stopgap measure avoiding a federal shutdown.

The short-term spending bill will keep federal agencies running through Feb. 18, 2022.

The legislation now goes to President Biden, who needs to sign it before the midnight deadline on Friday to avoid any lapse in funding.

The Senate passed the continuing resolution by a vote of 69-28, which will fund the government through Feb. 18. The House passed the same measure earlier on Thursday.

The new funding will keep the government open and authorize $7 billion to help settle evacuees who were part of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan in August.

Congress and Biden signed the last funding resolution at the end of September to keep the government operating until Friday. The agreement puts the issue off for another two months.
