WASHINGTON (GNB) – US President Joe Biden on Tuesday holds the first formal news conference of his presidency at the White House.
President Biden has announced his plan on Monday that he is doubling his original COVID-19 vaccination goal to 200 million shots in arms by his 100th day in office.
“Before I took office, I set a big goal of 100 million shots in my first 100 days. We hit the goal on day 58. Now, I’m setting a new one: 200 million shots in my first 100 days. Let’s do this”, President Biden detailed his new goal Thursday, during the first news conference of his presidency.
President Biden also revealed his plans to seek a second term in the White House in 2024 and he said he expects Vice President Kamala Harris would again be his running mate.
President Biden is also sticking to a goal of having a majority of K-8 schools open full time — in person, five days a week — by that same 100-day mark. So far, he said, roughly half of them are open full time.
“Help is here,” President said, and “hope is on the way.”
When it comes to the influx of migrants at the southern U.S. border, Biden said the Pentagon is making 5,000 beds available at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas, to increase capacity.
During the White House news conference, Biden blamed his predecessor Donald Trump for the growing humanitarian crisis on the southern border and said it was normal for the US to experience an influx of migrants in cooler months.
