Powerball enthusiasts across the United States are buzzing with excitement as the jackpot climbs to a staggering $900 million. Following Saturday’s drawing, which yielded no jackpot winner, lottery officials have announced that the next drawing, scheduled for Monday, July 17, holds this monumental prize. With an estimated cash value of $465.1 million, this jackpot ranks as the third largest in Powerball history and the seventh largest in the entire history of U.S. lotteries.
The winning numbers for the previous draw, held on Saturday, July 15, were 2, 9, 43, 55, 57, with the red Powerball number being 18. The Power Play multiplier for that draw was 2X. Although no ticket matched all the numbers, over 3 million tickets nationwide secured various lower-tier cash prizes, amassing a combined total of $24.5 million.
Notably, three lucky players from Colorado and Texas won $1 million each by matching all five white balls. Additionally, 89 tickets matched four white balls and the red Powerball, with 75 of them earning $50,000 and the remaining 14, who opted for the Power Play option, doubling their prize to $100,000.
It’s been 37 consecutive draws since the Powerball jackpot was last hit on April 19, 2023, when a fortunate individual from Ohio claimed an impressive $252.6 million prize. The anticipation continues to grow as players eagerly await the opportunity to seize the monumental $900 million jackpot.
The winner of Monday night’s drawing will have a choice between an annuity option, consisting of 29 annual payments that increase by 5% each year, totaling an estimated $900 million, or a lump sum payment of approximately $465.1 million, both amounts subject to taxes.
Powerball tickets are available for purchase at $2 per play in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. It is worth noting that more than half of the proceeds from ticket sales remain within the jurisdiction where the ticket was purchased. Powerball drawings take place every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. EST, broadcast live from the Florida Lottery draw studio in Tallahassee. For those unable to tune in, the drawings are also streamed live on Powerball.com.
The odds of winning any prize in Powerball are approximately 1 in 24.9, while the odds of hitting the jackpot stand at a staggering 1 in 292.2 million. The top 10 Powerball jackpots in history are as follows:
