The Central Committee and Parliamentary Party meeting held on Sunday of the Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has decided to withdraw from the government but retain its support.
According to a statement issued by Dr. Mukul Dhakal, Spokesperson of RSP : “The National Independent Party has decided to withdraw from the government by recalling the ministers from the party while maintaining the support provided to the current government. In the joint meeting of the party’s central committee and parliamentary party held today, after analyzing the current political scenario and various aspects of the government, the decision was taken by paying attention to the people’s wishes.”
After leaving the government, Minister of Education, Science and Technology Shishir Khanal, Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security Dol Prasad Aryal and Minister of State for Health Tosima Karki who became ministers from RSVP are going to return. They are going to submit their resignations to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal today.
In a press conference organized to give information about the decision of the central committee and parliamentary party meeting, the chairman of the RSP, Rabi Lamichhane, said that the RSP decided to leave the government after not getting a delivery ministry.
We are campaigning not only to be the home minister, but to lead the government, and now to be the prime minister. Even if I go to jail, RSP will move forward. Even if I die or get married, RSP will move forward,” he said in a press conference held at the party office by the chairman of RSP, Rabi Lamichhane.
He declared that he would not go to any position until he was elected. “I will not hold any position without being elected by the by-election,” he said.
According to the order of the Supreme Court, Lamichhane’s post of Home Minister and Member of Parliament was revoked because he did not complete the process to regain Nepalese citizenship after returning from abroad. The full text of the decision is not yet available.
Prime Minister Puspa Kamal Dahal had taken a stand to not make Lamichhane the Home Minister, saying that the interest of the RSP would be in conflict with the Ministry of Home Affairs and that even the full text of the case could not be found. KP Sharma Oli, the chairman of CPN-UML, the main component of the coalition, has been saying that there is no need to wait for the full text of the court’s decision to give the Ministry of Interior Lamichhane.
