KATHMANDU, NEPAL- Founder of Bibeksheel Party and former Coordinator of Bibeksheel Sajha Party Ujwal Thapa has passed away on Tuesday. Mr. Thapa was 44.
Thapa was undergoing treatment at the Lalitpur-based Mediciti Hospital on ventilator support. He was diagnosed with Covid-19 two weeks ago and was put on a ventilator on Friday.
He breathed his last today at 4:25 pm, in Mediciti Hospital in Lalitpur.
Bibeksheel Sajha Party confirmed the news of his passing away in a statement posted on social media. “The whole party line is shocked by the demise of Ujwal Thapa, founder coordinator of Biveksheel Sajha Party and founder president of then Viveksheel Nepali Party,” Bibeksheel Sajha Party said in a statement.

An emergency meeting of Bibeksheel Sajha Party Central Committee held today passed a condolence resolution expressing deep sorrow over the demise of former coordinator Thapa.
The meeting also called upon the entire leadership and members of the party to plant at least one tree on the 13th day ritual in memory of Thapa. Meanwhile, the party will hold discussions and debates on “Ujwal Thapa’s life and thoughts”.
The party will move forward by adhering to the values of culture, non-violence, and loyalty embraced by Thapa, according to a statement released by the party Chairman Rabindra Mishra.
Ujwal Thapa was known to be among the first people to sow the seeds of alternative politics in Nepal. Known for his unique campaigning styles, Thapa can be largely credited for the new wave of non-violent, peaceful and creative protesting ‘styles’ that can be seen across urban centres of the country of late. He was known to be a fierce campaigner against corruption and was a staunch supporter of Dr Govinda KC in his fight against irregularities in the medical sector.
