    Nepal initiates evacuation of at least 1,500 Nepalis workers in Afghanistan

    Nepal’s government said it has already initiated coordination for the evacuation of Nepalis working in Afghanistan.

    It is estimated that around 1,500 Nepalis working as security staff with embassies and with other international donor agencies in Afghanistan.

    Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the Government of Nepal will provide patronage to all Nepalis in Afghanistan waiting for the rescue.    

    PM Deuba said that the government has already taken cognizance of the issue. He said necessary coordination and guardianship is the responsibility of the government for the Nepalis waiting for safety and rescue. The government will fulfill this responsibility with awareness and seriousness.

    “We have formally written to embassies requesting them for the evacuation,” Nepal Foreign Ministry spokesperson Sewa Lamsal tells media outlets in Kathmandu.

    Lamsal says the government has also set up a panel to determine the exact number of Nepalis working in Kabul and elsewhere in Afghanistan.

    Nepal Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement urging Nepalis in Afghanistan to submit the online application form for the evacuation.

    Nepal does not have a diplomatic presence in Afghanistan, but thousands of Nepalis workers serving as security guards in diplomatic districts of Afghanistan.
