The government of Nepal led by newly appointed Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuja has decided to recall all the ambassadors appointed by previous government. A cabinet meeting held in Singha Durbar on Tuesday decided to this effect.

Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Gyanendra Bahadur Karki told media outlets after Tuesday’s cabinet meeting that the cabinet decided to recall ambassadors appointed under political quotas by the previous government.
“It has been decided to recall all the politically appointed ambassadors,” Minister Karki told media outlets.

The cabinet meeting decided to recall all ambassadors except the career diplomats from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), Minister Karki added.

Along with the government’s decision, Nepal’s Ambassador to the United States Yuba Raj Khatiwada among many others will be vacating their positions soon.

With this decision, the ambassadorial positions in various major countries including India, China, the US, the UK, Russia and Japan have now fallen vacant.

In a political quota, former minister Nilamber Acharya, Mahendra Bahadur Pandey and Yubaraj Khatiwada are serving as ambassadors to India, China and the US, respectively.

Those recalled will be given three weeks to a month to return home.
