    Nepal Earthquake Update: Death Toll Rises to 157

    The death toll from the recent earthquake in Nepal has tragically risen to 157. The devastating quake, which struck without warning, has left the nation in mourning as rescue and recovery efforts continue.

    The 6.4 magnitude earthquake, with its epicenter in Jajarkot, occurred on Friday night. By Saturday afternoon, local media reported that the death toll had reached 157, citing police sources. The fatalities were distributed as follows: 105 people in Jajarkot and 52 people in Rukum West.

    The death toll is expected to increase and many people are believed to be trapped under debris. Following the quake in Nepal, tremors were felt in Delhi-NCR and several other northern states.

    In addition to the tragic loss of life, numerous injuries have been reported across several districts: 105 in Jajarkot, 52 in Rukum West, 3 in Dailekh, 3 in Baitadi, 5 in Jumla, and 1 in Rolpa. Most of the injured are being treated at local hospitals and health posts, with the seriously injured undergoing treatment at Bheri Hospital in Nepalgunj.

    In response to the disaster, the Nepal government has decided to send five crore rupees (50 million) each to Jajarkot and Rukum West. This decision was taken by the Ministry of Home Affairs after discussions with various concerned agencies of the government. The funds will be sent to the District Disaster Management Fund of Jajarkot and Rukum West for immediate relief, sourced from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management.

    The Ministry of Home Affairs has also decided to send primary relief management materials from the warehouses in Surkhet, Nepalgunj, and Kathmandu based on the needs of the earthquake-affected districts.
