The number of dengue-infected individuals has surged in recent times. According to Dr. Rudra Marasini, Director of Epidemiology and Disease Control Division under the Department of Health Services, there has been a rise of 1,024 dengue cases in the past four days, reported from 66 districts.
The most affected province is Bagmati Pradesh with 291 cases, followed by Sudurpashchim Pradesh with 173 cases, Gandaki Pradesh with 171 cases, Koshi Pradesh with 154 cases, Lumbini Pradesh with 113 cases, Karnali Pradesh with 16 cases, and Madhes Pradesh with 14 cases.
Recently, Dr. Marasini also informed about the deaths of three individuals due to dengue in Sunsari district. Additionally, there have been 5,688 confirmed dengue cases across 70 districts. The highest number of confirmed cases is in Koshi Pradesh, with 3,821 cases.
The dengue fever is caused by the dengue virus transmitted by the Aedes mosquitoes, particularly the Aedes aegypti species. Its symptoms include high fever, muscle pain, eye pain, joint pain, rashes, vomiting, and bleeding, among others. Timely detection of these symptoms and seeking immediate medical attention can be crucial in managing the disease.
Dr. Marasini emphasized that the only way to prevent dengue infection is by avoiding mosquito bites, particularly those from the Aedes species. He advised taking precautions such as using mosquito nets while sleeping, wearing long sleeves and pants while working in fields, using mosquito repellents, and keeping homes and surroundings clean to eliminate mosquito breeding sites.
In response to the rising cases, the Ministry of Health and Population has directed all government and public offices to conduct a clean-up campaign every Friday morning from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm, involving all employees, to prevent the spread of dengue infection.
