    Money Order and Cashier’s Check collected by Nepal Embassy were looted in Texas

    Money orders and cashier’s checks collected from consular service camps of the Nepali Embassy operating in the cities of Dallas, Austin, and Houston were stolen, Nepali Embassy in Washington said.

    The consular service camps were organized by the embassy from 15 to 20 December 2022 in the cities of Dallas, Austin, and Houston, Texas.

    According to the statement issued by the Embassy of Nepal, the embassy staff along with the money orders and cashier’s checks submitted by the clients for a fee in the consular service camps were traveling from Houston to Washington DC on December 22. The vehicle parked in the parking lot was vandalized and robbed at 12:03 pm local time.

    But the embassy did not reveal how much money orders and cashier’s checks were stolen.

    The statement stated that the Embassy immediately filed a complaint with the Houston Police Department (Incident No.172235722) and Diplomatic Security Division Houston and other agencies and is trying to recover the stolen money orders and cashier’s checks.

    The embassy has appealed for assistance in returning the looted revenue money by investigating this incident which happened while providing services near to the customer. Similarly, the embassy has also requested to cancel the looted money orders and cashier’s checks.

    “If it is possible to cancel the money order or cashier’s check submitted by the consular service camp, all customers who receive service from the consular service camp are requested to immediately cancel the money order or cashier’s check at the respective store or bank where they made the money order or cashier’s check,” said the notice issued by the embassy.
