    ‘Little Buddha’ Ram Bahadur Bamjan Apprehended After Five Years on the Run for Sexual Abuse Allegations

    Nepal’s Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) has apprehended Ram Bahadur Bamjan, also known as ‘Little Buddha’, in Budhanilkanth, Kathmandu. Bamjan had been on the run for five years after an arrest warrant was issued by Sarlahi Court.

    He is accused of sexually abusing three young women in his ashram and attempting to evade arrest by jumping from a window during the police raid. The arrest was made on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, from a house in Budhanilkanth, Kathmandu.

    Ram Bahadur Bamjan, who became famous in 2005 for allegedly meditating for months without food, water, or sleep, has been a controversial spiritual leader. He has been accused of physically and sexually assaulting some of his followers . In July 2020, a case of sexual exploitation was filed against him in the District Court in Sarlahi . Bomjan was also wanted by the authorities for the disappearances of four of his disciples .

    The arrest of Ram Bahadur Bamjan is a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the allegations of sexual abuse against him. The authorities have been searching for him for the past few years for different charges including sexual exploitation of his disciples. The arrest of Bamjan will bring some relief to the victims and their families.
