Legendary singer and Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar passed away at the age of 92 on Sunday, 6 February, at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital.
Mangeskhar was hospitalised on Jan. 11 after being infected with COVID-19.
Mangeshkar died on Sunday morning of “multi-organ failure after more than 28 days of hospitalisation post COVID-19,” said Dr Pratit Samdani, who was treating her at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital, according to ANI news agency.
The singer, called the Nightingale of India, will be laid to rest at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park at 6:30 pm Sunday with full state honors.
The Central government announced two days of state mourning today and tomorrow, during which the National Flag will be flown at half-mast throughout India.
Shortly after her demise, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, and scores of other political leaders took to Twitter to express their condolences. Tributes have also been pouring in from across the Bollywood industry and the world.

Mangeskhar has lent her voice to songs in Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, and other regional languages.She has been honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan and Padma Bhushan as well as several National and Filmfare Awards.
